French-American Chamber of Commerce Names Goodyear Chairman Executive of the Year

Akron, Ohio, May 19, 1999 - Samir G. Gibara, chairman and chief executive officer of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, has been named Executive of the Year by the French-American Chamber of Commerce in Chicago. He will be honored tonight at the organization's Sixth Annual Nuit des Etoiles (Night of the Stars) in the Grand Ballroom of the Chicago Hilton and Towers.

According to Michel Gilbert, FACC executive director, the award recognizes executives "with proven leadership and success in business both in France and the United States, integrating both cultures in a global development strategy. This award is not only a recognition of personal achievement, but also a commendation of the company's success."

Goodyear's chairman since 1996, Gibara worked in the company's French operations for 16 years, 10 of those as president of Goodyear France. "It is truly an honor to be recognized by such a distinguished organization," Gibara said. "As this award is given to acknowledge dedication and perseverance, I will accept it on behalf of all Goodyear associates around the world. They are the reason for Goodyear's success for over a century and they are responsible for our progress during my watch as chairman," he added.

 

SinterCast Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) to Be Used In New Audi V8 TDI Diesel Engine

Stockholm, Sweden, May 17, 1999 – Audi, World Technology Leading Car Manufacturer, Launches State-of-the-Art Direct Injected V8 Diesel Engine With an Engine Block Cast in SinterCast Compacted Graphite Iron

SinterCast is pleased to report that the German car manufacturer Audi, at the Vienna Motor Symposium in Austria, on May 6, 1999, announced its new V8 TDI Diesel engine with the engine block designed in SinterCast CGI and produced by the German foundry Halberg Guss using the SinterCast Process Control Technology.

It is an important recognition of the SinterCast technology that Audi, well known technology leader with the highest reputation for Diesel engine technology, has appointed the quality foundry Halberg Guss to produce the engine block using the SinterCast Process Control Technology to meet is exacting quality standards.

SinterCast is pleased to be working with Halberg Guss, whose foundry expertise in the production of the highest quality cast iron has resulted in a unique production line installation of the SinterCast System 2000 to provide Europe's first high volume production facility for automotive engine blocks in CGI. The facility meets the highest quality standards demanded by the industry." 

 

Lear Corporation Issues Senior Notes

Southfield, Michigan, May 18, 1999 - Lear Corporation (NYSE: LEA) today announced that it has issued $1.4 billion aggregate principal amount of senior notes. The private offering included $800 million of 10-year notes bearing interest at a rate of 8.11% and $600 million of six-year notes bearing interest at a rate of 7.96%.

The net proceeds from the sale of the senior notes were used to repay a portion of the indebtedness under the Company's senior credit facilities which was incurred to finance the Company's recent acquisition of UT Automotive.
