DaimlerChrysler: Bernard I. Robertson Named Senior Vice President - Engineering and Technology

Auburn Hills, Mich. March 23, 1999 - Effective immediately, Bernard I. Robertson is appointed Senior Vice President - Engineering and Technology, reporting to Thomas C. Gale, Executive Vice President - Chrysler Product Development and Design, and member of the Board of Management.

In this position, Robertson assumes responsibility for all platform engineering activities associated with the Chrysler Brands in addition to his current responsibilities including the Liberty and Technical Affairs Group, Scientific Labs and Proving Grounds, Technical Computer Center, the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV), Truck Operations, Vehicle Engineering Operations, and Technology Strategy Planning.

"This is a great move for Bernard and the DaimlerChrysler Engineering community, " said Thomas T. Stallkamp, President – Chrysler Car and Truck Integration. "This new reporting relationship provides direct representation at the Board of Management level for all aspects of the product development process at DaimlerChrysler Corporation. In addition, Bernard brings a wealth of global engineering experience that will further assist in the company's integration process."

Prior to this move, Robertson was Senior Vice President - Engineering Technologies. He joined Chrysler Corporation in England in 1965 and has held positions in Vehicle Emissions, Manufacturing and Assembly, Product Planning, Brand Management, and Product Development. Previous assignments included Vice President - Jeep & Truck Engineering and General Manager - Jeep/Truck Operations; General Manager - Jeep & Truck Engineering; and Director - Product Strategy Operations.

He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow and Board of Director's member of the Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) and a member of the Engineering Society of Detroit. Robertson is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Coordinating Research Council, the Greenfield Coalition, Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS), and a member of the Operating Council of USCAR and PNGV. He is a Steering Committee member of the National Automotive Driving Simulation (NADS), the Automotive Research Center at University of Michigan (ARC), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Mobility Consortium and SAE Vision 2000.

He earned an M.B.A. from Michigan State University in 1976; a Master's Degree in Automotive Engineering, from the Chrysler Institute in 1967; a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Michigan in 1966; and a Master's and Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Sciences, from St. Catherine's College, Cambridge, England, in 1967 and 1965 respectively.

With these changes, the position of Senior Vice President - Platform Engineering is eliminated.
