Summary:
The place of honour on the Alfa Romeo stand at the
Frankfurt Motor Show is reserved for the saloon and Sportwagon
versions of the Alfa 156 GTA.
The Alfa 156 GTA and Sportwagon GTA are two
thoroughbred sports vehicles that offer something extra: more
performance, more handling, more braking capacity.
Two Alfa 147s wil be introduced, with
the 3-doored 2.0 T. Spark with Selespeed sequential gearbox and the
5-door 1.9 JTD. These cars are joined by an Alfa 156 2.4 JTD, an
Alfa Sportwagon 2.5 V6 24V and an Alfa 166 3.0 V6 24V Distinctive.
The Brand's niche models are represented by an Alfa
Spider 2.0 T. Spark with a new option: a navigation system built
into the car radio.
The Fiat space is dominated by the new Stilo.
Six Stilo versions are on show, with two positioned on rotating
platforms: a 3-door and a 5-door. Both are in the Dynamic
specification and both are equipped with a 98 kW (133 bhp) 1.8 16v
power unit.
The other four range versions include a 3-doored
125 kW (170 bhp) 2.4 20 valve Abarth with Selespeed robotised
gearbox and a 5-doored 1.8 16v in the Dynamic specification.
Doblò, a model with two spirits -
multipurpose car or commercial vehicle, can be see as a brand new
version equipped with the tried-and-tested 1.9 jtd Common Rail
turbodiesel engine.
Two Puntos are displayed: the lively
5-doored 1.2 16v in HLX specification and the youthful, sporty
'Punto Go!'. The Multipla, the innovative Fiat six-seater, is
displayed in a version powered by a JTD 105 turbodiesel engine. Last
but not least comes the Naxos barchetta.
The centrepiece is the Lancia Thesis. Three
versions are on show, all in the LX specification: the first is
equipped with the 170 bhp 2.4 20v petrol unit; the other two with
the powerful 3.0 V6 24v automatic transmission.
The line-up continues with the Lancia Lybra.
Two cars are on show, a saloon and a Station Wagon, equipped
respectively with a 2.0 five cylinder 20 valve and a 2.4 jtd while
the Lancia Y is represented by the youthful, bubbly 'elefantino blu'
version.

The new car is playing the high-tech card and
offers highly innovative ideas and high quality standards to one
very specific end: to become the new benchmark within the compact
medium-sized car band.

Alfa Romeo

The Alfa 156 GTA and Alfa Sportwagon GTA power
unit is derived from the now classic three liter V6 24 valve unit
fitted to top-of-the-range Alfa 166 and Gtv versions: a vigorous
and, most important of all, well-rounded power unit.
The sophisticated mechanical units had to be
reflected by styling that conveys an impression of the model's
greater strength and sportiness in a few tweaks that do not alter
the original shape.

The Thesis throws open Lancia's doors to the new
Millennium and opens up a new chapter in the relationship between
man and machine. New parameters are explored as part of a
multisensory approach that involves using top-quality materials not
merely for their good looks but also for the corresponding tactile
and acoustic reactions they arouse.
