Opel Astra
 |
.
Featuring exciting design, high driving dynamics and a host
of features new to compact cars, the new Astra, which celebrates its world
premiere in Frankfurt, is the main attraction on the Opel stand. The
appearance of the third generation Astra is defined by Opel’s new design
language - well-balanced proportions, clear lines, taut surfaces, bold
graphics and precision-crafted details.

Opel Vectra Estate
.
|
.
Opel's
second highlight celebrating its world premiere at the international
Motor Show besides the new Astra is the new Vectra station wagon, which
completes the Vectra range and will reach the market in November. Thanks
to its long wheelbase (2.83 meters) it has the largest cargo volume in
its class (530 to 1850 liters) while simultaneously offering lots of
space for passengers. The seat-back of the rear bank is equipped with an
integrated load-through facility and folds down in a 60:40 ratio. The
maximum load length is more than two meters (2046 mm), or more than
three meters with the optional folding front passenger seat.

Saab Hatchback Concept
.

.
|
.
Saab continues its recent product offensive with the Saab
9-3 Sport-Hatch Concept - a sporty, five-door, four-seat car that offers
driver-focused performance and innovative versatility features, all
packaged in a 'fastback' shape that draws its inspiration from the Saab
9-3X 'cross-over coupé' concept that premiered last year.
Powered by a
high performance 250 bhp, 2.0-liter turbo engine, the 9-3 Sport-Hatch
Concept signifies Saab's intention to enter the mid-size wagon segment
with a sporty product that reflects Saab’s tradition for designing
surprisingly versatile 5-door models. The concept team, under Saab
Executive Director of Design Michael Mauer, has expanded a number of
exterior and interior design themes from the 9-3X concept car -
signaling Saab’s future in this segment.

Daewoo Lacetti

 |
.
With its new, sporty Lacetti hatchback GM Daewoo will be
adding an attractive new model to its compact class line-up. The
front-wheel drive, five-door car will reach European showrooms in
February 2004. There will be a choice of three engines with manual or
automatic transmission (for the 1.6 and 1.8 versions). With its modern
Italian design, generous standard equipment and excel-lent value for
money, the Lacetti fits neatly into a fast-growing line-up of new GM Daewoo
models.
The
Lacetti’s modern styling was created by Italdesign, the famous Turin
studio founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Almond-shaped, clear-glass
headlamps and a new, self-confident radiator grille with the brand
emblem integrated into a horizontal chrome strip, dominate the front
view of the compact Lacetti.

Cadillac Sixteen

.
|
The Cadillac
Sixteen, which is celebrating its German premiere at the IAA, is over
three times as powerful – the monstrous V16 engine under the hood
delivers exactly 1000 hp or 745 kW. This 5.67-meter-long concept car
boasts an innovative aluminum body with a large glass roof and a
sumptuously furnished interior with walnut wood and crystal accents that
recreates the classic atmosphere of a 1930s luxury automobile. |
.
Cadillac XLR

. |
It is due to
go on sale in Europe in the near future, as is the Cadillac XLR, the
second highlight at the General Motors stand. This elegant two-seater
roadster/coupe boasts a retractable hardtop and is fitted with technical
wizardry such as automatic headway control via radar and head-up
display. The XLR is driven by the 4.6-liter Northstar V8 with 231 kW/315
hp. |
.
Cadillac SRX

.
|
.
The Cadillac SRX, for example, will be
making its first appearance on European soil. The 4.95-meter-long
five-door model defies con-ventional classification, combining the
advantages of a wagon and an SUV. With space for up to seven people and
plenty of luggage, two powerful V6 and V8 engines boast-ing 191 kW/260
hp and 239 kW/320 hp as well as rear-wheel or full-time all-wheel drive,
the newcomer is a genuine all-rounder.

Corvette Commander
.

|
.
The “Commemorative Edition” Corvette is aimed at sportier
tastes. Limited to just 150 units and available only in Europe, this
special version is General Motors’ homage to the highly successful
motorsports career of the C5-R racing version, including triumphs at the
24 Hours of Le Mans. At the same time, it represents a celebratory
farewell to the fifth Corvette generation.
Visually, the blue metallic Commemorative Edition coupe with red, white
and blue stripes is very similar to the C5-R racing Corvette. The hood
is made of extremely light carbon fiber material. While the V8 engine
with its 5.7-liter displacement and 253 kW/344 hp is exactly the same
unit as that in the standard Corvette, engineers decided to enhance the
special version’s suspension for an even sportier performance

Hummer G2

.
|
The Hummer always appears
expressive for European circumstances. This
enormous car should not be missed on the show. |
