LAND ROVER'S Special-Edition RANGE ROVERS And New DISCOVERY SERIES II SD Debut At
The 2000 New York International Auto Show
NEW YORK, NY. - Five new Land Rover models will be showcased by the premier
sport-utility manufacturer at the 2000 New York International Auto Show.
Four of the vehicles are special, low-volume editions of Land Rover's flagship model,
Range Rover. And making its world debut is Discovery Series II SD-a new, tougher, more
affordable version of the much-lauded Discovery Series II. The SD represents a 2.5 percent
price reduction when compared to the previous entry-level Discovery Series II.
SPECIAL-EDITION RANGE ROVERS

"New York-the second largest Range Rover market in the world-is the perfect
showroom for special-edition Range Rovers," said Curt Imber, Land Rover North
America, Inc.'s Range Rover Model Manager. "Range Rover customers desire vehicles
that are unique, personal, prestigious and thoroughly capable. These special edition
models are the ultimate embodiment of the luxury sport-utility vehicle."
The four special-edition models are a showcase of the combined efforts of Land Rover,
Land Rover Special Vehicles operations in Solihull, United Kingdom, and partnerships with
such prestige names as Holland & Holland and designer David Linley. This
collection-shown together for the first time-represents the most sought-after Range Rovers
ever. Two of the four new special-edition Range Rovers-the Range Rover 30th Anniversary
Limited Edition and the Range Rover Rhino Edition-were designed to embody the most
distinctive aspects and heritage of Land Rover's most prestigious model line.
The other two models, the Holland & Holland Range Rover and Range Rover Linley,
represent Land Rover's partnership with two other prestige British marques. The Holland
& Holland Range Rover, with production now underway, captures the prestige and
exclusivity of both Land Rover and another famous English brand-the premier sporting
weapons manufacturer and travel organization Holland & Holland. And the ultimate and
most exclusive Range Rover ever-Range Rover Linley-embodies the spirit and flair of
world-renowned designer David Linley.
These special-edition Range Rovers will be sold in extremely low volumes. A mere 125
Range Rover Rhino Edition and 125 Holland & Holland Range Rovers are currently planned
for the U.S. Moreover, only 200 30th Anniversary models will be made for the U.S. To date,
only three Range Rover Linley models have been produced; Linley models are available
through Land Rover Special Vehicles on a made-to-order basis only.
DISCOVERY SERIES II SD
"The Discovery Series II SD is an exceptional vehicle. It's as rugged as it is
sophisticated," said Kim McCullough, Land Rover North America, Inc.'s Discovery Model
Manager. "We are convinced the SD is the right package for this market. It will put
the Discovery Series II on more shopping lists by making the vehicle even more affordable
and appealing. Better yet, the Duragrain interior is more attractive than the cloth
package it replaces."
By industry standards, the Series II SD is hardly a base model. It features an
attractive new Duragrain interior-a tough leather-like material developed to replace the
previously offered cloth interior. The new seating surface is durable and
stain-resistant-perfect for families-but also elegant in the typical Land Rover fashion.
As with all Discovery Series II models sold in the US, the SD features a long list of
standard equipment that includes a strong V8 engine, dual-mode automatic transmission,
permanent four-wheel drive, Four-wheel Electronic Traction Control, Hill Descent Control,
and four-channel anti-lock brakes. The SD's standard comfort features include
power-operated side-view mirrors; automatic, dual-zone climate control; eight-way
power-adjusted front seats (the previous, cloth Discovery Series II model featured
manually-adjusted seats); a high-quality, 100-watt six-speaker sound system; a leather
wrapped steering wheel; and a keyless remote locking system with alarm. Other optional
equipment includes seating for seven.
