HANDAR4.GIF.gif (182 Byte)   GM Sweeps Premium Midsize Segment in Initial Quality and Top Three Plants in North America
DETROIT, May 5, 1999-- General Motors swept the top three spots in the premium midsize car segment and had the top three plants in North America, according to the 1999 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study released Wednesday.

The Chevrolet Lumina, with just 87 problems per 100 cars, won the premium midsize segment, edging the Buick LeSabre and the Buick Century.

Buick was the No. 2-ranking nameplate in the overall study. Lumina and LeSabre were the only non-luxury cars and the only North American-built cars to finish in the combined car and truck top 10 of fewest problems per 100 vehicles.                                                           ... see full article

Ingolstadt, 30.04.99 - Audi officially opened the second phase of the Neckarsulm plant's paint shop, a construction project representing an investment volume of DM 158 million. In addition to around 200 guests from the worlds of politics and business, Erwin Teufel, Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, and Jürgen Gebhardt, AUDI AG's Member of the Board of Management for Production, took part in the opening ceremony. Both of them stressed the importance of Audi's investment for the region.

Toyota Announces Major Executive Changes

Tokyo -- TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced that it will make key changes at the senior director level. Under the plan, Toyota Chairman Shoichiro Toyoda will be made Honorary Chairman, while President Hiroshi Okuda will take over as Chairman. Vice Chairman Iwao Isomura will remain in his post and Executive Vice President Fujio Cho will become President.

The changes will be made official at the board meeting following the company's annual general shareholders meeting to be held in the later part of June.
