Ford Celebrates Top Award For New Transit
Nick Scheele with New Transit Photo: Ford BRUSSELS, Belgium - Ford celebrates its first major success of 2001, with the naming of the new generation Ford Transit as "International Van Of The Year 2001" by an independent jury. The 20-member panel of international journalists overwhelmingly voted for the Transit, giving it the highest points score ever seen by a winner of the prestigious title. Receiving the trophy at the Brussels Commercial Vehicle Show today, Ford of Europe Chairman Nick Scheele, said: "We are absolutely delighted and proud to receive this award for a vehicle that is so important to Ford. The Ford Transit is a major contributor to our European business and the new Transit range embodies every bit of knowledge we have accumulated as a commercial vehicle leader since 1965." Europe's most popular van, the Transit achieved its four-millionth production milestone in 2000 and has led the European medium commercial market for 10 out of the last 13 years. With the introduction of the all-new model in 2000, Transit is available for the first time in both front and rear-wheel drive versions, offering up to 2-tonne capability. Presenting the award Pieter Wieman, Chairman of the International Van of the Year jury, commented: "Transit received 112 of the maximum of 133 points that can be given to one candidate. This is the highest ranking in the history of the International Van of the Year jury." (January12, 2001) [Homepage] [
