Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars Again Posts Excellent Results with Double-Digit Sales Increase in April
Stuttgart – Worldwide sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars rose by over 12 percent to approx. 98,800 units in April. Following the successful launch of the station wagon and the sports coupe models, the C-Class was particularly successful in April, doubling the sales figures posted in the same month last year. This means that a total of 121,700 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicles (sedan, station wagon and sports coupe) have been sold in the first four months of this year. The S-Class continued its successful run by selling over 32,100 units between January and April, a record result. Commenting on these results, Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Director of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars, said: "Despite the declining automotive markets in Germany, parts of western Europe and the U.S., we succeeded in increasing worldwide sales of our passenger cars by over 10 percent. This has allowed us to increase our market shares. Developments on the German market, where we sold approximately 36,000 vehicles in April and improved on the result from the year 2000 by about 23 percent, were particularly gratifying."
