As a luxury sports car customized for a younger market, the Volvo S40 has met with unprecedented success around the world by winning over nearly 40 awards in both international and local auto markets. With its succinct and smooth Scandinavian design, the Volvo S40 has improved Volvo's brand image greatly. The Volvo S 40's target customers are the new generation of young elite who are intelligent, confident and individualistic. By integrating more fashion and spo t tiness to Volvo's premium, consistent and relentless spirit, the Volvo S40 has been well received by this group in China. Extremely Powerful Engines to Meet the Diversified Needs of Different Customers In addition to its outstanding performance, the Volvo S40 also reflects the car makers understanding of consumer needs within a diverse market place. With the mid-range, luxury car market in mind, the 5-cylinder 2.4L engine delivers a maximum power of 170 hp and a torque of 230 Nm. To meet the needs of the young elite group of consumers that demand more engine power, the 2.5L turbocharged five-cylinder engines are also available. The technical indicators and power performance of these engines can hardly be matched by any of their competitors. The five cylinder 2.5 T engine delivers strong power and each cylinder utilizes the 4-valve, double overhead cam technology which increases transmission and response speed. The CVVT applied to the engine also helps to increase traction and efficiency. The long stroke, turbocharger and in-line five-cylindered engine can generate high torque at high spinning speed which allows the engine to speed up at any spinning rate. The long stroke also serves to increase low speed performance so that the car will respond effortlessly when climbing a slope or carrying a heavy load. The letter "T" in S40 T5 represents "turbocharger". The greatest advantage of which is to largely increase the efficiency of the engine without increasing the engine's displacement. This means that an engine with a relatively smaller displacement can generate the same power as that of an engine with a relatively larger displacement. The additional power generated by the turbocharger is equivalent to increasing the efficiency of the engine to over 3.0L from the former 2.5L engine, greatly increasing its performance as compared to the same class of naturally aspirated engines. While spinning at 4,500 rpm, the 2.5T engine can generate a maximum torque of 320 Nm. Peak output can reach an astounding 220 hp at a spinning rate of 5,000 rpm, delivering extraordinary power for the locally produced S40 T5. Implementing Volvo Cars Unified Standards in Quality and Safety While striving to achieve the nationally stipulated localization rate on domestically manufactured cars, locally produced Volvo S40 luxury cars fully adhere to the stringent safety and quality standards set by Volvo Car. By cooperating with Chinese factories of global suppliers, t he unified standards of Volvo Car have been applied to every detail of the Volvo S40s including all components, raw materials, product precision and car body paint. These technical standards are strictly followed and inspected by experts from Volvo Cars under the company's unique global production standards, i.e., the "PCPA System", so that each and every end product will be of the same quality and standard as those produced in other places of the world. The unique dyes used for the local production of many components and parts are also provided by Volvo Cars. To further validate the safety of the Volvo S40 luxury cars produced in China, Volvo Car have sent the locally produced Volvo S40s to the world's most advanced Volvo Safety Cent re , as well as the Auto Safety Test Cent re in China, in order to perform safety crash tests. The tested cars have shown truly excellent performance. By virtue of their high cost efficiency and accurate market positioning, the Volvo S40 luxury cars will eventually become the most intelligent choice of car for the new generation of young elite in China.
