focus on economic and environmental concerns, manufacturers are

This year's show also marks the
historic arrival of the modern electric car era. After years of
anticipation, consumers can finally own mass-produced electric
vehicles. The first two highly anticipated vehicles to kick-off
this modern era of electric transportation include Chevrolet's
range extended electric Volt and Nissan's battery electric LEAF.
A dozen more electric drive vehicles will be featured at the
show. More than half of the production vehicles on display will
be for sale in the coming year, and others are forward looking
concepts that will map out how electric transportation will
progress in the future.
With new green concepts and
production vehicles from at least 20 manufacturers, consumers
have a greater selection of low-emission, high-mileage vehicles
to choose from than ever before. Hybrids still represent the
largest volume of "green" vehicles including the popular Toyota
Prius, Honda Civic and Ford Fusion hybrids, and KIA plans unveil
its first hybrid, the Optima sedan.
