BMW GROUP Set For Stable Growth With New Models

17.7% Sales Increase As Of February 2002

Munich - In the second month of the year 2002, the growth course of the BMW Group has once again been continued. The company was able to sell 152,228 units as of February, out of which 138,042 were of the brand BMW (+ 6.7 %) and 14,186 were of MINI. Sales of the BMW Group thus increased as compared to the same period of the previous year by 17.7 %. In the month of February, a total of 74,422 automobiles were delivered to customers, 16.6 % more than in the previous year. With 67,970 units, the brand BMW achieved a new February record level (+ 6.5 %) and MINI reached the sales of 6,452 units.

One contribution to this development was provided by the latest new launches: as of February, 6,225 new BMW 7 Series were delivered to customers worldwide. The sales since the market launch - November 2001 in Germany - significantly exceeded those of the predecessor. For the MINI brand 14,186 vehicles have been delivered worldwide as of February. Since the market launch - July 2001 in Great Britain - a total of 39,166 MINIs have been delivered.

In Germany, BMW Group sales have developed positively despite general market stagnation. As of February, for example, 39,681 cars - 9.9 % more than before - were delivered to customers. The share of the brand BMW was 36,499 vehicles (+ 1.1 %), and that of the brand MINI was 3,182 units. Again, compared to the same month of last year, February was very strong in sales with a total of 20,082 units sold (+7.2 % as compared to February 2001), of which 18,526 were BMW vehicles and 1,556 were MINIs.

The USA has also achieved a new sales record: 33,879 more BMW vehicles were sold since the beginning of the year, equivalent to a 15.0 % increase. In February, 17,956 units (+ 14.0% as compared to the same month last year) were delivered to customers.

A further positive development was to be observed in Great Britain. As of February, the total volume had increased to 14,651 units (+ 63.8 %).

In February, the BMW Group supplied 4,374 vehicles (+ 97.0 % as compared to February 2001), 3.059 units of the brand BMW (+ 37.8 %) and 1,315 units of the brand MINI.

In other European markets, too, sales continued to increase in February: in Italy 5,045 units were sold (+ 14.0 % as compared to the equivalent period of the previous year), of which 3,734 were BMW and 1,311 were MINI vehicles; in France 3,400 units were sold (+ 29.2 %), of which 2,650 were BMW and 750 were MINI vehicles, in Spain 2,914 units (+ 32.2 %), of which 2,574 were BMW and 340 were MINI vehicles, in Belgium 2,175 units were sold (+ 22.7 %), of which 1,931 were BMW and 244 were MINI vehicles.
