Lexus at Frankfurt Motor Show 2005

  • European premiere of GS 450h high performance hybrid sedan.

  • European premiere of 2006 SC 430 luxury sports coupe-cabriolet.

  • Next generation IS compact sports sedan, featuring the first Lexus diesel engine.

  • Lexus LF-A 500 DIN hp concept car.

  • GS 450h – European Premiere

The high performance Lexus GS 450h luxury sports sedan, which goes on sale in 2006, is the second production vehicle to showcase Lexus hybrid drive technology, and the first full hybrid vehicle to feature front engined rear wheel drive. The new drive-train combines a 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine with a highoutput, permanent magnet electric motor, producing a total power output in excess of 340 DIN hp. The GS 450h will accelerate from 0-100 kph in less than 6.0 seconds, whilst returning the fuel economy figures of a 4-cylinder, 2.0 litre sedan and producing substantially reduced CO2 emissions than similarly powered vehicles.

2006 SC 430 – European Premiere

On sale throughout Europe from November 2005, the next generation Lexus SC 430 features extensive remodelling designed to bring a new elegance and maturity to the luxury sports coupe-cabriolet, and also features various changes to the interior specification. Enhanced safety features include a driver’s knee airbag, load limiters to the front seatbelts, an Intelligent Adaptive Front Lighting System (I-AFS) and run flat tyres. On-board, a bespoke Mark Levinson audiophile sound system is available as standard.

The next generation IS, which goes on sale in Europe by the end of 2005, marks the introduction of the first ever Lexus diesel engine. Generating 177DIN hp and 400Nm of torque, the new common-rail turbodiesel unit is the most powerful engine in its displacement category. The new IS further features a full package of active and passive safety features, including Lexus’ Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, a Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) system, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and 8 airbags including the world’s first twin-chamber front passenger airbag. A new, 10 channel, 14 speaker, 300W Mark Levinson Surround System offers discrete 5.1 home theatre DVD entertainment via the centre console Lexus navigation System screen.

LF-A Concept Car

The fourth successive LF concept vehicle to explore Lexus new L-Finesse design direction, the LF-A combines the luxury refinements of a true Lexus with the power and driving dynamics of a high performance, two-seater supercar. It features a powerplant capable of developing more than 500 DIN hp from a cubic capacity of less than 5.0 litres. A radical approach to component sizing and packaging has created an exceptionally compact design with very short front and rear overhangs and the perfect front/rear weight distribution essential to optimum high-speed handling and stability.
