Stuttgart - In June 2001, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, registered a slight decline in deliveries to customers in North America, which is by far its most important export market. Deliveries totaled 2,064 sports cars, representing a slight drop by 3 percent compared with the same month a year previously (2,138 units).

The reason for this drop in deliveries is not slackening demand but limited availability of the company's sports cars. A strong world-wide boom in demand has called for allocations to be readjusted. In numerous markets Porsche is currently registering a dynamic increase in deliveries to customers as well as in the incoming orders which have to be satisfied. Production of the latest 911 model generation has also started, though these cars will not reach the dealers' showrooms until September this year.

From January to June 2001 Porsche delivered 13,800 cars to North America, an 6 percent increase compared with the same period a year before (13.015 units). This is the best half-year result since 1986. The Zuffenhausen-based manufacturer is confident of exceeding the previous year's total sales figure of 23,294 units on the North American market in the current 2000/01 fiscal year, which ends on July 31, 2001.
