Allison Transmission Selects Site For Parts Distribution Facility INDIANAPOLIS,
Dec. 17, 1999 - Allison Transmission Division of General Motors has selected a site for
its new parts distribution facility in Indianapolis, company officials announced today.
Located in the AmeriPlex complex south of the Indianapolis International Airport, the
27-acre site will be home to Allison Transmission's new 390,000 square-foot Parts
Distribution Center (PDC).
"Our new parts distribution center will enable Allison Transmission to better meet
the needs of our diverse customer base by focusing our support equipment and aftermarket
parts business in a new, state-of-the-art facility," said Dan Hancock, president,
Allison Transmission. "Selecting Indianapolis as the site for the new center
underscores our commitment to business growth in the city and Marion County."
Construction is set to begin by January 11. The project is scheduled for completion in
the summer of 2000. The facility will employ about 240, according to company officials.
Allison Transmission now maintains two parts distribution facilities in Indianapolis.
The new facility will consolidate the company's parts distribution operations in a single,
modern, centrally-located facility.
Consolidation of Allison Transmission's parts business will improve the operation's
efficiency by improving access to road and air transportation, eliminating parts
'double-handling' and updating business systems, said Hancock. "Allison Transmission
has been an important corporate citizen in Indianapolis for many years," said
Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith. "With the building of this new state-of-the-art
facility, Allison is signaling its continued commitment to the city."
The site for Allison Transmission's new facility will permit future expansion as
needed, Allison Transmission officials said. Allison Transmission leads the world in
design, production and sales of medium- and heavy-duty automatic transmissions for trucks,
buses, off-road and military equipment.
