Ford Motor Company Partners To Open Natural Gas Fueling Station Los Angeles, CA– Ford Motor Company announced the opening of the first of four planned natural gas fueling stations to be located in Southern and Northern California. The natural gas fueling station is a result of a public/private partnership between Ford Motor Company, Pickens Fuel Corporation, the County of Los Angeles, the City of Los Angeles, the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program and the Gas Technology Institute. Together the group provided land and more than $200,000 in support. The station, located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, will fuel city and county fleets, taxicabs, shared-ride vehicles, hotel shuttles and airport shuttles. The new station features state-of-the-art equipment that dispenses compressed natural gas at 4.5 gallons per minute. The station opening is timed to support those impacted by the South Coast Air Quality Management District Rule 1194, which requires fleets to purchase and operate cleaner-burning vehicles. "Low emission, natural gas vehicles are dependable, long range vehicles that promote cleaner air quality," said Rich Williams, Ford Motor Company, AFV Infrastructure/Market Development Manager. "This is just one of the committed efforts Ford Motor Company is making to building alternative fuel infrastructure." “This is a great example of how public and private businesses can work together to meet environmental needs," said Andrew Littlefair, President, Pickens Fuel Corporation. “Natural gas is a great option for fleet-owners.” In addition to the downtown Los Angeles station, Ford Motor Company and Pickens Fuel Corporations are scheduled to also open three additional stations, located at Oakland Airport, John Wayne Airport and San Francisco by summer 2001.
