BMW GROUP NA Sales Pass 200,000-Vehicle Threshold

Sales for First Ten Months Up 17 Percent; October Sales Up 22 Percent

WOODCLIFF LAKE, NEW JERSEY - The BMW Group (BMW and MINI brands combined) recorded robust sales increases for the first ten months of 2002, reporting 206,791 vehicles, a 17 percent increase over the 176,606 reported in the same period a year ago. The BMW Group also reported October sales of 19,634 vehicles, up 22 percent over the 16,122 reported a year ago.

BMW Brand

BMW of North America, LLC reported year-to-date sales of 188,185 automobiles and Sports Activity Vehicles, up 6.6 percent over the 176,606 vehicles sold through October 2001. The company also reported October sales of 16,789, up 4 percent over the 16,122 in the same month in 2001.

BMW Automobile Sales

BMW reported sales of 153,629 compared to the 144,277 cars sold through the first ten months of 2001, an increase of 6.5 percent. The company also reported October automobile sales of 13,368, up 8.3 percent from the 12,343 cars sold in the same month a year ago.

Sales of BMW's new 7 Series sedans are especially strong, with year-to-date sales up over 45 percent. October sales reflected an 85 percent increase over the same month last year as the company recorded sales of more than 20,52 7 Series models.

BMW also reported total sales of 734 all-new BMW Z4 roadsters in the five days this model was on the market. The Z4 roadster 2.5i featuring a 2.5 liter, 185-horsepower engine, and the Z4 roadster 3.0i, featuring a 3.0 liter, 225-horsepower powerplant, went on sale October 26 at 340 BMW dealers across the US.

BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Sales

Year-to-date, sales of BMW's X5 Sports Activity Vehicles were up 7 percent, to 34,556 vehicles compared to the 32,329 reported last year. The company also reported October sales of 3,421 BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicles, down from the 3,779 vehicles reported last year.

BMW Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Sales

Sales of BMW CPO vehicles passed the 50,000-vehicle threshold this month, with 50,072 vehicles reported, a jump of 55 percent above the 32,271 vehicles sold in the first ten months of 2001. October sales were up 53 percent, with 5,236 vehicles sold compared to 3,419 a year ago.

MINI Automobiles

The company reported sales of 1,533 MINI Coopers and 1,312 MINI Cooper S' for the month of October for a total of 2,845 cars sold. Year-to-date, the company reported sales of 10,888 MINI Coopers and 7,718 MINI Cooper S' for combined sales of 18,606. The MINI brand has been on sale in the U.S. since March 22.
