EnerSys Announces
New Production Facility in China

- EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), the world’s largest manufacturer, marketer and
distributor of industrial batteries, today announced that it plans to
construct a new battery manufacturing facility in Gaoyou City, Jiangsu
Province, People’s Republic of China for the production of industrial
batteries for Chinese and international markets. When completed by 2015,
the new facility will provide capacity to meet increasing customer
demand in these markets.
EnerSys has
manufactured industrial batteries in China for over 20 years and
currently operates two manufacturing plants, one in Jiangsu Province on
the east coast and one in Chongqing in the geographic center of China.
The Gaoyou plant will be in located in a purpose zoned industrial area
close to our existing Jiangsu facility with good access to labor and
transportation and is well supported by the district government.
The new facility will
be approximately 475,000 square feet and, when fully operational, will
be able to employ approximately 950 people producing both Motive Power
batteries for the forklift battery market and Reserve Power batteries to
serve the telecommunication, energy and uninterruptible power supply
industries.
