GM Powertrain Announces New Plant Manager At Fredericksburg PONTIAC, Mich. - David W. Clarkson, currently superintendent of production at the GM Powertrain (GMPT) Fredericksburg (Va.) Components Plant, has been named manager of that plant. Homi Patel, vice president of manufacturing for GMPT, made the announcement today. Clarkson will report to Joseph M. Choate, manager of the GMPT Flint (Mich.) Components Plant. This new appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2001. "David’s experience working in several different plants in our organization will be a valuable asset as he assumes his new assignment as manager of our Fredericksburg plant," said Patel. Clarkson began his GM career in 1983 with Buick Motor Division as a high school co-op student. The following year, he joined the former Flint Automotive Division as a college co-op student. He transferred to the former Hydra-matic Division in 1986. At Hydra-matic, which became part of GMPT, Clarkson held the positions of associate manufacturing engineer and manufacturing engineer. He moved to the GMPT Flint Transmission Plant in 1991 and advanced through several positions there, including senior manufacturing engineer and superintendent of maintenance. He transferred to Fredericksburg as superintendent of production in 1998. Clarkson is a native of Flint, Mich. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the former General Motors Institute (Flint), now Kettering University. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan-Flint. (Dec. 14, 2000)
