"Bramalea built its
one-millionth large car in January 1997," Plant Manager William A. Wolf told the
group gathered at the Plant. "It took four and a half years to produce our first
millionth, but only three-and-a-half to build our second. This significant milestone
reflects the continuing high level of global market demand for the great family of
full-sized sedans Concorde, Intrepid, LHS and 300M built at Bramalea
Assembly."
Special
guests at today's ceremony included, besides Mr. Wolf, CAW Local 1285 Plant Chairperson
Duane Reay and R. M. (Larry) Latta, Vice President Sales and Service,
DaimlerChrysler Canada. "Exactly eight years ago last week on June 30, 1992
Chrysler launched a whole, new generation of cars in this plant," Mr. Latta
said. "With their breakthrough 'cab-forward' design, the 1993 Chrysler Concorde and
Intrepid set new world standards in stunning exterior styling and interior roominess.
"In
1997, there was another celebration when Bramalea launched the totally redesigned,
second-generation Concorde and Intrepid. "From the get-go, these cars have won wide
acclaim from automotive writers, and from the North American car-buying public. They've
garnered nearly every major award in the business, including Motor Trend Magazine's 'Car
Of The Year'; Car & Driver Magazine's 'Ten Best', and the Automobile Journalists
Association of Canada's 'Car Of The Year'.
"Awards
the vehicles have won include: When production for the 2000 model year ends on July 7, the
plant will have produced 347,108 cars, seven thousand more than the plant's 1999 model
run. The three million square foot facility is the sole producer of Chrysler/Dodge
Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde, LHS and 300M for the world.
