It will be available for internet ordering beginning June 1, 2001. The 2002 Prius, as well as its price, remains unchanged from the current model and maintains its affordability with an MSRP of $19,995. Initially offered as a single specification with no factory options, the 2002 Prius can be ordered with a choice of several new factory options including a navigation system, cruise control, SRS side impact airbags and daytime running lights. In addition to the new factory options, two new exterior colors, Brilliant Blue and Blue Moon Pearl, have been added to the four carryover colors. Prius carries an EPA fuel economy rating of 52 miles per gallon city, 45 highway, and an SULEV (super ultra low emission vehicle) certification which is about 75 percent cleaner than the ULEV rating and nearly 90 percent cleaner than LEV for smog forming exhaust gases. Since its July 2000 launch, 11,434 Prius vehicles have been delivered. The Prius has been the recipient of many awards including "Best Engineered Car of 2001" by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the "Sierra Club Award for Excellence in Environmental Engineering" from America’s oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization.
