MINI Hydrogen Concept Car Shown At The 2001 IAA Frankfurt
MINI Hydrogen Concept Car Photo: Automotive Intelligence Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey - Further demonstrating BMW Group's commitment to hydrogen power, the Concept Hydrogen MINI shows how hydrogen power may be made viable in a small car. With good performance and cabin space the main criteria, the MINI Hydrogen Concept car features a single-mode four-cylinder engine with a cryogenic fuel/air mixture. By delivering ultra-cold liquid hydrogen fuel to the intake ducts the system gives gasoline engine type performance. To circumvent storage tanks from intruding into passenger/luggage areas, the MINI concept car is fitted with a contoured hydrogen tank, situated beneath the rear seats. The BMW Group showcased the potential for hydrogen internal combustion engines with a fleet of production based BMW 7 Series that traveled to six cities on a recent global tour. The Concept Hydrogen MINI's technology clearly explores the practical implementation of hydrogen in a small car. (1. October 2001) [Homepage] [
