Wolfsburg - Insert DVD, unfold monitor and press the "Play" button: with a minimum of effort the Volkswagen Touran is transformed into a mobile cinema.

A DVD-system is now also available for the Touran as well as for the Passat and Sharan. The "Rear Seat Entertainment" (RSE) developed by Volkswagen Individual is a multimedia system in every respect: as well as DVDs, CDs or MP3 files can be played and camcorders or games consoles connected.

The seven inch TFT colour screen is mounted in the centre of the headliner and can be unfolded quickly and easily. Rear-seat passengers therefore have a good view from every angle. The DVD-player itself can be found in the centre armrest and is easily accessible to both driver and front passenger. It can be operated either on device itself, via the operating unit of the centre console in the rear, or easily by infrared remote control. Up to three sets of headphones with individual volume control can be connected. The DVD sound is also played through the radio to heighten the "cinema effect". The RSE and radio can also be operated separately so that the driver and passengers can still listen to the radio whilst the DVD operation is running.

"Rear Seat Entertainment" is available for the Touran as an optional extra priced at 1,960 euro. It adds to the extensive range of innovative optional equipment such as folding front passenger seat and comfort centre armrest (both standard equipment from the Trendline upwards), multi-function steering wheel which operates radio and telephone, parking heater ex works, 2-zone-Climatronic, ParkPilot, cooling and heating box or interior bicycle holder. The Touran is Germany's most popular van with a market share of 24.5 percent (January-June 2004, source: KBA).
