DEARBORN, Mich. - The hybrid-electric version of America's best-selling small SUV, the all-new 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid will have a base manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) under $27,000 when it hits showrooms later this summer.

The base price for the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid will be $26,380, excluding destination and delivery charges of $590. 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid equipped with four-wheel-drive will start at $28,005, plus destination and delivery charge.

The Ford Escape Hybrid is the world's cleanest and most fuel-efficient SUV. Escape Hybrid has a full hybrid system that enables it to run on its gasoline engine, electric battery power, or both together.

"Customer demand for the Escape Hybrid is very strong - it's generating a great deal of excitement in the marketplace," says Steve Lyons, President - Ford Division. "Considering the advanced technology in the Ford Escape Hybrid and its truly superior fuel economy and emission levels, these prices represent good value for our customers."

Ford Escape Hybrid is a no-compromise hybrid-electric sport utility vehicle, featuring the product strengths that have made Ford Escape the nation's best-selling small SUV. Its responsive steering and handling, and available four-wheel drive deliver a driving experience unlike any other hybrid vehicle available in the world. Escape Hybrids fuel efficient I-4 gas engine and electric powertrain combine to deliver acceleration performance similar to the popular V-6 powered Ford Escape, along with greatly improved fuel economy and near-zero smog-forming emissions.

The MSRPs of Escape Hybrid are $3,300 to $3,425 above comparably equipped 2005 V-6 powered Ford Escape XLT models.

Various federal and state incentives will be available to customers who purchase an Escape Hybrid. Under federal tax guidelines the Escape Hybrid will qualify for a "Clean Fuel Vehicles" tax deduction - $1,500 for 2004 purchases. The deduction can be taken regardless of whether the customer itemizes his/her taxes. Financial and other incentives may be provided at the state level. For example, some states offer income tax credits and/or state sales tax exemptions or reductions. Customers should consult a tax advisor for more information.

The 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid will be built at Ford Motor Company's Kansas City (Mo.) Assembly Plant.
