Werner Schalow Appointed New Head of DaimlerChrysler’s Hamburg Plant Dr. Jürgen Böhm to retire on June 30, 2007, after 27 years at the company Effective July 1, 2007, Werner Schalow has been appointed the new head of the DaimlerChrysler plant in Hamburg-Harburg. He will be succeeding Dr. Jürgen Böhm, who will be retiring on June 30 after 27 years of service to the company.
“I’d like to thank Dr. Jürgen Böhm for his achievements and dedication during his 27 years at DaimlerChrysler,” said Volker Stauch, Head of Powertrain Production at the Mercedes Car Group. “In particular, I’d like to thank him for the enhancement of the Hamburg-Harburg plant, which is an important cornerstone of our powertrain production network.” After earning a doctorate in mechanical engineering, Böhm joined MTU München GmbH, where he held several different management positions over a period of twenty years, the last one being that of Head of Series and Development Production. From 2000 to 2001, Böhm served as Managing Director of CTS GmbH, Hamburg. At the beginning of 2002, Böhm was appointed head of the DaimlerChrysler plant in Hamburg. |

In addition to serving as plant director, Dr. Jürgen Böhm was a member in various associations. He worked on the board of the Hamburg Industrial Association, was a member of Nordmetall and the Harburg Business Association, and was also a plenary member of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. Through his involvement in Star Care Hamburg, Böhm also engaged himself in social issues.
Werner Schalow joined DaimlerChrysler in 1979. Since then he has held various specialist and management positions at the Hamburg plant, most recently as Head of the Production Center for Chassis, where he was responsible for the development and production of axles.
Hamburg plant
The Hamburg-Harburg plant specializes in the production of axles and steering columns, in addition to system elements including pedal units, gearshifts and parking brakes. In the production of these components, the Hamburg plant also employs pioneering development and manufacturing technologies, such as hydroforming and laser welding. The refinement of these technologies and the entire process chain — from concept testing to series production — are carried out here in ultramodern production areas.
