Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, based in Stuttgart, have extended the 911 model range with the Targa model, which was first revealed to the public at the Internationale Automobilausstellung (IAA) (International Motor Show) in Frankfurt. The new model features an innovative glass roof panal which opens and closes almost silently by means of two electric motors. The roof opening surface area covers up to 0.45 m², which is almost twice that of the 911 Coupé's sliding roof.

 

The second highlight of the Targa is a folding rear window which facilitates the easier loading of luggage in the rear luggage rack. When the rear seat backrests are folded down the luggage capacity increases to 230 litres.

The Targa features the new 3.6 litre six-cylinder horizontally-opposed engine with an output of 235 kW (320 bhp), and boasts a top speed of 285 km/h. Although the Targa (1415 kg unladen, DIN) weighs 70 kg more than the Carrera coupé due to the roof module and body reinforcement at several points, it displays remarkable performance in acceleration from a standing-start. From 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.2 seconds - identical to the new Carrera cabriolet.
