MAHWAH, N.J. - Jaguar  unveils the all-new sport sedan, the X-TYPE, at the Geneva International Auto Show.

The X-TYPE becomes a fourth model in the company's expanding product range and marks Jaguar's entry in the fast-growing compact sedan segment. X-TYPE is Jaguar's first all-wheel drive model, and will be aimed squarely to challenge the segment's existing sales and image leaders starting at less than $30,000.

"As well as providing a new and more affordable entry point to the Jaguar line-up, the X-TYPE also delivers a fresh and distinctive blend of Jaguar's unmistakable styling," said Mike O'Driscoll, president of Jaguar North America. "Geneva is the perfect location to reveal the X-TYPE which will have such an international appeal."

The performance spirit of the all-new X-TYPE is reflected in its stylish, contemporary yet distinctive shape, unmistakably identifying it as a Jaguar. The harmony between classic Jaguar style and sporty modern design was achieved, in part, thanks to a carefully devised interplay of sensuous, sculptured forms of crisp detailing. The sleek profile, quad headlights, low-profile chrome grill and Jaguar leaper hood ornament draw a clear link to current Jaguar models. The roofline and muscular haunches echo Jaguar's sedan heritage.

"There will be no mistaking the X-TYPE for anything but a Jaguar - it is instantly recognizable," said Mike O'Driscoll. "The X-TYPE carries the Jaguar genetic code, so its heritage is evident, but it also underscores the sporting and contemporary edge of our future design direction."

Interior Design and Functionality

Jaguar based the X-TYPE interior design on a classic cockpit theme. In the Jaguar tradition, it combines sporting character with high levels of craftsmanship, comfort and luxury. The unique sense of Jaguar intimacy is reinforced by the use of natural wood veneers and soft, luxurious trim materials.

The standard interior trim for both the X-TYPE 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter models is a light brown bird's-eye maple wood veneer and Connolly leather seats. The optional Sport Package substitutes darker gray-stained bird's-eye maple trim. In addition, the Sport Package adds specially contoured, Connolly leather sports seats and a sports steering wheel with perforated leather trim.

Jaguar will offer two X-TYPE models in the United States, both with the advanced Jaguar Traction-4 all-wheel drive system. The X-TYPE 2.5-liter will feature the 194-horsepower AJ-V6 engine fitted with either a five-speed manual gearbox or an optional five-speed electronic automatic transmission. The X-TYPE 3.0-liter equipped with a 231-horsepower AJ-V6 engine comes with the automatic as standard, with a manual as a no-cost option.
